As I have explained, daylighting techniques are key aspects that are used when designing a house. However, That's not the only way to get good sunlight. When it comes to real estate, it's location location location. How will all of the daylighting techniques be able to work, if they aren't getting any sunlight? This is why it is important to pick the perfect location to design a house.
While picking the location for a house, there are a few things that need to be kept in mind. Amount of sunlight, view, noise, terrain, and relative location. Amount of sunlight is arguably the most important. To get good sunlight, you want to make sure that your house is in the open. This way, there will be nothing to obstruct the sunlight from hitting your house. Also, you want to be able to see as far into the horizon as you can. This way, it takes longer for you to see the sun set, which means you get the most hours of sunlight as possible Terrain is another very important aspect of location. When choosing you want it to be flat. This way, it will be much easier to build on. Also, It makes for a much more pleasant walk to and from the house. Another thing that you need to pay attention to is the relative location. Relative location is where it is in comparison to other things. For example, you might want to build a house away from a road. This also ties in to noise, because if you are near a busy road, it will be noisy at your house 24/7, and that isn't very pleasant. The last thing is view. You want to have a good view, because it just makes for better living. It is just more comfortable for the owner of the house. The three sites that our group chose, were to the left of the student center, the back of the practice baseball field, and the are by the tennis courts. Some pros of the student center was that it had good view, it was out of the way, and it had good sunlight. Some cons were that it had bumpy ground, making it hard to build on. And it was hard to access, because you had to go up a bumpy hill with really long grass. This site had a 5.8 out of 10. Our second site was at the back of the practice baseball field. It's pros were that it had good sunlight, it was on good ground, and it was quiet. It had one con, and it was that it's in the middle of nowhere. It would take a long walk to get there. This had a total score of 8 out of 10. Our third site was by the tennis courts. It's pros were that it was perched, and it has a good view. Some cons that it had, was that it was that it was noisy, it didn't have ideal sunlight, and it was on bad ground. It's total score was a 5.4 out of 10. The site that we ended up selecting was the one at the back of the baseball field. We felt that it was going to be the easiest to build on, and it had the best sunlight, which is really what we were after in the first place. |
